Sledding Tips
Published Dec 18, 2006 by jjmaughan1. Make sure to sled in places where there are no obstacles, such as trees, signposts or fence posts. Make sure the slope does not end on a street, parking lot, or river.
2. Kids and adults should always sit on a sled feet first. Even though the old-fashioned Christmas cards showed kids throwing themselves on their bellies down the hill, this is a great big no-no. Don't ever slide head first.
3. Sled on a real plastic or wooden sled. Sledding on garbage bags or other soft plastic items are not safe and can be punctured by sharp objects embedded under the snow.
4. Wear plenty of layers so you'll be able to sled for hours without getting uncomfortable. Hats, mittens, snow pants, boots and more will ensure that you and the kids stay warm.
5. Young children should be supervised by adults while sledding, and it doesn't hurt to keep an eye on the older ones as well.
*15 Minute Moment* Play a letter game, where you decide on a broad category, such as Food. The first person says a food, such as "peach" and the second person must think of a food that starts with the last letter of the word. In this case, "honey" would be a good answer. Go until you run out of ideas, then pick a new category.
