Neighborhood Christmas Lights

Why not plan a night out viewing the neighborhood Christmas lights? It's neat to see how some of your neighbors have decked the halls this year. We have a favorite neighborhood that we like to go to when we take a little night drive in December. We don't know anyone there and we just stumbled upon it one year. In this neighborhood, it seems that they are all in a house-decorating competition, just like in the new movie, "Deck the Halls." We choose a Friday or Saturday night a week or so before Christmas, bundle up the kids and take a drive around our town.

Here are some tips to make viewing the neighborhood Christmas lights even more fun.

1. Choose a neighborhood that has quiet streets and is not busy. That way you can slow down and look at lights without worrying about traffic accidents. 2. Play some soft Christmas music as you drive around to set the mood. 3. Have a contest with family members as judges. Select a few categories such as "Most Reverent," "Best North Pole Scene," "Best Winter Wonderland," and "Best in Show" and decide which houses rate the award. 4. Keep the drive to about 30 minutes. After a while all the homes begin to look the same and you and the kids will get bored. With a short drive, the excitement is there and you finish on a high. 5. Obviously, avoid getting out of the car or lingering too long in front of a home. You don't want to intrude or look suspicious.

*15 Minute Moment* Get a 2007 calendar and mark the year's important dates together, such as birthdays, upcoming vacations, etc.
