Mini Golf Mayhem

Published Nov 10, 2006 by jjmaughan

One of the most fun family activities we do is mini-golfing. There are several spots near our home and its perfect for all ages and stages. From waterfalls and wild curves to tunnels and windmills, the miniature golf course continues to be one of the most popular family activities around. You can play the traditional way and keep score or just keep track informally. When the baby was small, I just loaded her in the stroller and she enjoyed watching everyone. It's a great way to be outdoors on a sunny day.

Here are some tips to maximize the enjoyment of a mini golf family tournament:

1. Start out with plastic bags full of M & M's where an even number is inside (like 12). Make playful bets with each other. For example, "Mom, if you can get the ball through the windmill, I'll give you three. If you can't, you owe me three." The person with the most candies at the end wins.

2. If you have enough family members, split up. For example, have Mom and son compete, with Dad and daughter behind.

3. If you have the course to yourself (as is sometimes the case on off hours) play it backwards, starting from the 18th hole.

4. Play follow the leader golf. The first person tries to hit the ball in a funny way (standing on one foot, clucking like a chicken) and the rest of the players follow.

5. Make a tournament out of it, by keeping careful score. The winner gets to have a little trophy or medal and is the guest of honor for the ice cream store afterwards.

*15 Minute Moment* Look online together for a Thanksgiving poem. Write the poem on a nice piece of stationary or scrapbook paper, and hang it up for all to see during November.
