These hot chocolate spoons are great to give as gifts, whether accompanied by a box of hot chocolate mix or bunched together by the dozen. You can even give them to coffee drinkers with a can of gourmet coffee beans. Pair these up with a sparkly cellophane wrapping, ribbon, and gift tag and you've got a great present that everyone can enjoy. Kids can make these nearly by themselves with minimal supervision. Make sure to keep some aside for your traditional mug of hot chocolate on Christmas Eve.

Hot Chocolate Spoons

What you need: 12 oz. bag of chocolate chips 12 oz. bag of chips in a contrasting flavor (white, butterscotch, mint, etc.) Shortening 25 to 30 heavy plastic spoons 1 plastic sandwich bag Glass drinking glass Wax paper Cellophane, ribbon and gift tag

What you do:

1. Place chocolate chips in a microwaveable container. Microwave chips for 30 seconds, then stirr. Microwave again for 30 seconds and stir again. Chips should be melted completely. If not, microwave for 20 more seconds. Be careful not to overcook the chocolate.

2. Add 1 teaspoon of shortening to the chocolate. Stir until blended.

3. Dip the plastic spoons into the melted chocolate in the glass. Completely cover the spoon and about a half inch of the spoon's handle.

4. Lay the spoons on the wax paper to set up. We like to put the wax paper on a baking sheet for easy moving.

5. Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the white chocolate chips. When melted, spoon white chocolate into the plastic sandwich bag.

6. Snip off a small corner of the sandwich bag, and you have a decorating tube. Squeeze the white chocolate over the chocolate spoons so that thin drizzles of white fall on top of the chocolate. Moving your arms in long motions to cover several spoons at a time gives them a gourmet look.

7. When chocolate sets up, place the tray in the freezer for 15 minutes.

8. Cut a square of cellophane and wrap the spoon. Tie individually and attach a gift tag. Repeat as needed. You can also wrap a ribbon around several for a cluster of spoons.

*15 Minute Moment* Snowflakes fall slowly. Take turns naming things that fall just as slowly as a snowflake.
