Handmade Christmas Gifts: Key Holder

Published Nov 23, 2006 by jjmaughan

It's happened to everyone. Just when you are trying to leave the house, you can't find your keys. With this clever and easy gift, there will be no excuses for misplacing them. It's the perfect gift for any grownup that has a house, apartment, car, or locker. I found that this project is best for about second graders on up. The preschool kids just got a little frustrated with this one. Also, it's a better gift when the older kids can paint details on the little houses to make them look cute as can be.

What you need:

3 wooden blocks 3 wooden triangle blocks Carpenter's wood glue Acrylic paints of various colors Paintbrushes Cup hooks Picture-frame hanger

What you do:

1. Use blocks and wood glue to create a small-scale replica of the recipient's house. Let it dry thoroughly.

2. Paint the blocks with acrylics.

3. Along the bottom, screw in cup hooks, evenly spaced.

4. Fasten the picture-frame hanger on the back so the key holder can hang on a nail.

*15 Minute Moment* Talk about your favorite fruits and why you like them.
