Handmade Christmas Gifts: Christmas Potpourri

Published Dec 7, 2006 by jjmaughan

The smells of Christmas--pine, orange, peppermint, cinnamon and more--is as much a part of the season as the presents and the tree. Our Christmas potpourri is a tradition at our house and fills every nook and cranny with delicious holiday smells. These Christmas potpourri sachets make excellent gifts and are very easy for you and your children to put together. They are wonderful to give to that person who has everything. They also work well for neighbor gifts and teacher gifts.

What you need for 6 sachets:

6 oranges 6 lemons 6 sticks of cinnamon 12 bay leaves 1 cup whole cloves Approximately 50 cranberries 6 gift bags (plastic or cloth) 6 gift cards, blank Ribbons, bows etc. as needed

What you do: 1. Each sachet should contain 1 orange, 1 lemon, 1 cinnamon stick, and 2 bay leaves. 2. Divide the cloves and cranberries evenly by 6 ways. Add to the sachets. 3. Print or type the Christmas Potpourri instructions on the gift card. It should read something like this:

Christmas Potpourri We hope you enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of this Christmas season! Slice orange and lemon and add to 6 cups of water in a large pan. Add cinnamon, bay leaves, cloves and cranberries. Bring to a boil. Turn heat down and simmer. Add water to cover as it evaporates.

4. Close up the bags and fasten with ribbons and bows as desired.

*15 Minute Moment* Design the ultimate snow fort on paper, and include such fun things as a snow slide, tunnel and more. When it snows, see if you can recreate your design.
