A fun and easy craft to create with your kids from egg cartons.

With school starting, many of your children are riding away each morning on a big yellow school bus. This craft is great for kids to incorporate this big familiar vehicle into their play.
It's also a fun thing for younger kids to make who aren't in school yet, and have to watch big brother or sister ride away in one. Of course, get creative and add unique details. Make two or three and have a whole fleet of vehicles. Older kids can do most of this themselves, but preschool children will need some supervision.
Egg Carton School Bus
What you need:
1 top of a cardboard egg carton (not foam)
Yellow Tempra paint and paintbrush
Black marker
1 sheet of black construction paper
Scissors
Glue
Magazines or catalogs with smallish pictures of children
What you do:
- Paint the carton lid yellow. Let the paint dry.
- Have children trace two circles on the black paper (use the bottoms of soup cans).
- Cut out the wheels, or let children do it.
- While paint is drying, allow children to cut out images of children and animals from the magazines.
- When the paint is dry, glue the wheels on.
- Write the word SCHOOL BUS along the top of the bus.
- Glue the children cutouts in the egg carton holes for windows. If you don't have the type of lid with holes, draw windows along the side and glue the people there.
With a little imagination, you can vary this project to create a fire truck or even an army transport truck. Check out more egg carton craft ideas, and get a jump on your Halloween decorations with an egg carton spider. Get started and turn your trash into treasure!
