Decorating your child's backpack can help make school exciting again when the newness of school clothes and supplies wears off.

Now that your child is comfortable with the whole school routine, perhaps they are feeling a bit of the blahs as the newness of school supplies and clothes is wearing off. Add some sparkle to their school days by letting them decorate their backpack. A personalized backpack lets them express their personality and creativity. An added bonus is that it makes their pack easy to recognize in the jumble of stuff at school. Let them be as conservative or creative as they like.
- Use glitter glue pens to write cool sayings and designs. Let the glue designs dry thoroughly overnight before using the backpack.
- Find some cool iron-on patches and follow the directions accordingly. Anything from butterflies for girls to Spider-Man for boys will work.
- Make a zipper pull by stringing some beads onto a pipe cleaner. Loop the strand and twist around the zipper.
- Use permanent markers and some plastic stencils to draw funky messages, such as "School Rules."
- Purchase various sizes of wiggly eyes, and superglue them all over the backpack. It makes a really unique "sight!"
TIP:
Don't allow children to write their names where they are clearly visible. Many police officers and school safety officials say that this is one way that predators can easily learn the child's name, pretending that they know them.
15 Minute Moment
Look in a mirror and count your teeth. Compare the difference between the adult's teeth and the child's teeth. They'll be surprised at the difference.
