Christmas Eve Books

1. Save a few special books just for Christmas Eve. Keep them out of reach of the kids so they won't be tired of them by the time the big night rolls around. Some of our special ones are The Nativity, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, and a few others.
2. Depending on the size of your family, have everyone pick their favorite book to read that evening. Take turns reading to each other and showing the illustrations.
3. Choose one special book and have everyone write a short message on the front inside cover. You can even just have each family member write their name, date and age. It's fun to see how children's handwriting changes and this tradition also documents how long that special book has been part of your Christmas Eves.
4. Get everyone bundled up in their pajamas and pass out mugs of hot chocolate and cookies, so that mouths and hands are occupied while the reader is telling the tales.
5. Make the last book be 'Twas the Night Before Christmas so the children know that when that book is finished, it's time for bed!
