I know it's just before Thanksgiving, but this recipe is so much fun to make the day after Thanksgiving while you're setting up the Christmas tree and decorating the house. It's also a great treat to go along with turkey sandwiches and works as a bridge from post turkey day to the full-fledged Christmas season. It's easy for children to make, and a great addition to any holiday feast. I've also adapted the colors to work for other holidays (orange for Halloween, red for Valentine's Day, etc.)

Christmas Cake

What you need:

1 box yellow cake mix
1 box red Jello (cherry or strawberry)
1 box green Jello (lime)
1 box vanilla pudding
1 container of whipped cream
12 marachino cherries

What you do:

1. Mix and bake the cake according to the package directions. Let the cake cool completely.

2. With the end of a wooden spoon, make shallow holes in the cake, about 2 inches deep. Don't push down all the way to the bottom of the pan.

3. In two separate bowls, mix the red Jello and green Jello according to the package directions.

4. Use a large spoon to pour the liquid Jello over the cake and into the holes. Refrigerate the cake for several hours.

5. Mix the vanilla pudding according to the package directions. Top the cake with a layer of pudding. Then top with a layer of whipped cream. Use the marachino cherries to decorate the top.
