My nearly 5-year-old has discovered books this month. He's always liked books and readig time has ben fun and special, but he really loves books now. The boy wants to look at books all the time. I think it has to do with the connection between learning his letters and basic words in preschool and that these words mean things. My mom calls it phonemic awareness--the idea that letters and words have meaning. With that, I've found that many of my daughter's favorite books when she was that age just aren't that interesting to him. Here's a list of great pre-kindergarten boy books.
No, David! by David Shannon
The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales by Jon Scieszka
Dogzilla by Dav Pilkey
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr.
Swimmy by Leo Lionni
Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten by Joseph Slate
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.
