Books about Winter

Published Dec 12, 2006 by jjmaughan

We are fully into winter now, and there's nothing more fun than to cuddle up with your children under a blanket and read. There are so many children's books that feature lovely winter illustrations and scenes that will make you appreciate that the bad weather is out there and you are safe and cozy inside. Many of these can be read by older elementary kids, and preschool aged kids will enjoy the simple verses and great pictures.

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats This is one I remember reading as a child, and it's been a classic since 1963. Snowballs by Lois Ehlert This book will inspire you all to head outside and create an entire snowy world. The Mitten by Jan Brett If this book doesn't inspire you to curl up in a warm wooly blanket for a winter nap, then you haven't been looking at the great illustrations of the various animals who seek shelter in a wooly mitten. The Snow Family by Daniel Kirk Misbehaving snowmen need a little wisdom from a child in this sweet tale.

Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner The secret of what snowmen do at night is out. Share it with your children as you read this one together. *15 Minute Moment* Look through a toy catalog together and have your child add up the cost of the toys. Talk about a budget and pretent they have a set amount to "shop" with.
